THE REASONS BEHIND THE LETTERS

All placement notes.

Placements express our priorities for the stated profile. They are not measured DPS or win-rate results.

SWhirlwind FuryWarrior · Fury

Warrior · Fury · Mechanics checked; comparative placement provisional.

Why we placed it here
Automatic Whirlwinds, Flurry’s additional hits and damage-linked healing give this direction a simple offense-and-recovery plan once its milestones are learned.

The tradeoff
Kill-fed Rampage adds less when nothing is dying. Close pressure still needs sensible movement and recovery; the automatic attack is not immunity.

Mechanics checked: Bladestorm · Flurry · Rampage · Death Wish and Blood Craze

Open the Warrior Fury guide
SShield Slam ProtectionWarrior · Protection

Warrior · Protection · Mechanics checked; comparative placement provisional.

Why we placed it here
Health-linked Shield Slam, an absorb engine and Shockwave connect defense to useful pressure. Last Stand adds a limited recovery opportunity after a lethal blow.

The tradeoff
Absorption and damage reduction still have limits. This placement rewards a forgiving completed setup, not a claim that its damage exceeds every offensive build.

Mechanics checked: Titan · Fortified · Shockwave · Last Stand

Open the Warrior Protection guide
SConsecration ProtectionPaladin · Protection

Paladin · Protection · Mechanics checked; comparative placement provisional.

Why we placed it here
Health-supported damage, Hammer-triggered Consecration and a stacking shield package give the build several connected ways to keep working while absorbing pressure.

The tradeoff
The package needs its actual spell interactions and useful ground coverage. A shield is bounded protection, not permission to remain in every dangerous area.

Mechanics checked: Hammer of the Righteous · Hallowed Ground · Ardent Defender and Blessed Life · Improved Consecration and Weighted Hammer

Open the Paladin Protection guide
SPenance DisciplinePriest · Discipline

Priest · Discipline · Mechanics checked; comparative placement provisional.

Why we placed it here
The shield opening, limited shield restoration and independent Penance bolts create a forgiving protection-and-pressure package, supported by the branch’s regeneration options.

The tradeoff
A shield break and its restoration have conditions and limits. Do not deliberately absorb avoidable hits or mistake defensive reliability for a tested damage lead.

Mechanics checked: Penance · Divine Aegis · Rapture · Meditation

Open the Priest Discipline guide
SPyroblast FireMage · Fire

Mage · Fire · Mechanics checked; comparative placement provisional.

Why we placed it here
A Pyroblast opening, Hot Streak’s additional casts and Pyroclasm’s qualifying-kill bursts give this completed Fire direction a simple, connected route to continuing pressure.

The tradeoff
Critical investment and the first kill matter. An isolated durable target supplies no death chain, and conditional Impact stuns are not a guaranteed defensive layer.

Mechanics checked: Pyroclasm · Hot Streak · Ignite · Impact

Open the Mage Fire guide
AMortal Strike ArmsWarrior · Arms

Warrior · Arms · Mechanics checked; comparative placement provisional.

Why we placed it here
Mortal Strike’s supported opening, nearby extra hits and qualifying killing-blow resets form a clear plan for finishing enemies and carrying pressure onward.

The tradeoff
The reset needs a killing blow, while Trauma needs an existing damage-over-time effect. Neither condition is an always-active bonus against a lone durable target.

Mechanics checked: Mortal Wounds · Sweeping Strikes · Trauma · Deep Wounds

Open the Warrior Arms guide
AExorcism RetributionPaladin · Retribution

Paladin · Retribution · Mechanics checked; comparative placement provisional.

Why we placed it here
The Exorcism opening and target-centered burst make a readable damage core, while The Art of War adds another documented source of free Exorcisms.

The tradeoff
Critical triggers and nearby targets affect the payoff. Develop the working spell and safety instead of assuming a hoped-for critical chain is already reliable.

Mechanics checked: Divine Storm · The Art of War · Conviction · Sanctity Aura

Open the Paladin Retribution guide
AHoly Shock HolyPaladin · Holy

Paladin · Holy · Mechanics checked; comparative placement provisional.

Why we placed it here
Divine Favor establishes Holy Shock with extra targets, and its Holy Wrath links provide additional automatic or critical-triggered pressure around the player.

The tradeoff
The surrounding burst still asks for useful positioning, and critical effects are conditional. Keep Holy Shock’s current strength separate from a future proc package.

Mechanics checked: Divine Favor · Daybreak · Light's Grace · Lasting Judgement

Open the Paladin Holy guide
AAimed ShotHunter · Marksmanship

Hunter · Marksmanship · Mechanics checked; comparative placement provisional.

Why we placed it here
A defined Aimed Shot opening, cooldown support and an additional-shot milestone make this a focused plan with easy-to-understand upgrade decisions.

The tradeoff
Kill Shot’s reset requires a killing blow and has a restriction. A durable enemy does not supply the same reset rhythm as a dying pack.

Mechanics checked: Kill Shot · Rapid Fire · Scatter Shot

Open the Hunter Marksmanship guide
ABeast Mastery Multi-ShotHunter · Beast Mastery

Hunter · Beast Mastery · Mechanics checked; comparative placement provisional.

Why we placed it here
Wolf-and-raptor support connects pet bites to free Multi-Shots, giving the completed direction two documented damage channels and nearby bite coverage.

The tradeoff
Pet and shooting support have different jobs. Frenzy is conditional, and companions are not verified taunts or substitutes for keeping the Hunter’s own spell package useful.

Mechanics checked: Bestial Wrath · Tame Beast · Frenzy · Intimidation

Open the Hunter Beast Mastery guide
ABackstab SubtletyRogue · Subtlety

Rogue · Subtlety · Mechanics checked; comparative placement provisional.

Why we placed it here
Backstab splash, automatic nearby Gouge and a limited Cheat Death rescue connect damage, control and a recovery window in one understandable direction.

The tradeoff
Dirty Deeds depends on actual control, and the rescue cannot be treated as repeated healing. Keep an escape route when its protection is unavailable.

Mechanics checked: Shadow Dance · Preparation · Dirty Deeds · Cheat Death

Open the Rogue Subtlety guide
AShadowform PainPriest · Shadow

Priest · Shadow · Mechanics checked; comparative placement provisional.

Why we placed it here
Pain’s supported opening, tick-triggered Mind Blasts and afflicted-death propagation give this direction a coherent spreading engine, with Spirit Tap supporting recovery after kills.

The tradeoff
Propagation needs qualifying deaths. Keep sustained pressure and survival in view when a target outlasts the pack or the next kill takes longer to arrive.

Mechanics checked: Shadowform · Shadowy Apparitions · Spirit Tap · Improved Shadow Word: Pain

Open the Priest Shadow guide
AChastise HolyPriest · Holy

Priest · Holy · Mechanics checked; comparative placement provisional.

Why we placed it here
Chastise develops Smite with another target and critical-triggered Holy Nova. The Holy branch also connects critical pressure to burning damage and healing.

The tradeoff
The useful offensive and recovery links are conditional. A player-centered Nova needs appropriate spacing, and an unfinished critical package should not be treated as guaranteed sustain.

Mechanics checked: Chastise · Inspiration · Purifying Flame · Radiance

Open the Priest Holy guide
AChain LightningShaman · Elemental

Shaman · Elemental · Mechanics checked; comparative placement provisional.

Why we placed it here
Additional jumps without attenuation and an automatic second Chain Lightning make a clear pack-pressure engine, with a separate chance-based repeat from Lightning Overload.

The tradeoff
Range, the original spell’s strength and survival still matter. Extra casts do not justify ignoring an encounter that is exposing a weak defensive opening.

Mechanics checked: Elemental Mastery · Elemental Fury · Lightning Overload · Storm Reach

Open the Shaman Elemental guide
ATotemic WrathShaman · Restoration

Shaman · Restoration · Mechanics checked; comparative placement provisional.

Why we placed it here
Searing and Magma milestones, extra placed totems and coverage support establish a distinct damage field; Reincarnation supplies a limited lethal-blow recovery.

The tradeoff
Useful placement is part of the plan. The text does not promise that every automatic spawn duplicates again, or that the recovery makes standing still safe.

Mechanics checked: Totemic Wrath · Call of the Elements · Totemic Mastery · Reincarnation

Open the Shaman Restoration guide
AWindfury Feral SpiritShaman · Enhancement

Shaman · Enhancement · Mechanics checked; comparative placement provisional.

Why we placed it here
Supported Lightning Bolts, spell-based Windfury and spirit wolves create a coherent spell-and-companion direction, with Flurry and Maelstrom adding different triggers.

The tradeoff
Several benefits are conditional. Preserve a strong original spell and do not count every extra strike as a new cast or assume permanent Flurry uptime.

Mechanics checked: Feral Spirit · Windfury · Improved Lightning Bolt · Flurry · Maelstrom Weapon

Open the Shaman Enhancement guide
AWater Elemental FrostMage · Frost

Mage · Frost · Mechanics checked; comparative placement provisional.

Why we placed it here
A Frostbolt opening, companion bolts, splinter coverage and automatic Frost Nova give this direction several documented ways to maintain pressure while creating space.

The tradeoff
Control and Shatter conditions need to apply to the actual enemy. Do not assume every target freezes, or that the companion replaces the player’s own damage development.

Mechanics checked: Summon Water Elemental · Splitting Ice · Frostbite · Shatter

Open the Mage Frost guide
AArcane Missiles ArcaneMage · Arcane

Mage · Arcane · Provisional placement: current native wording checked; the 0.132.0 Echo fix is not benchmarked.

Why we placed it here
A defined Missiles opening, extra missiles with further targets and bounded repeated-spell cascades form a connected upgrade plan. Arcane Power wording is rechecked in 0.133.0.

The tradeoff
The 0.132.0 patch corrected high-Echo behavior. Exact values and comparative gains remain unmeasured, so this placement stays provisional while respecting the updated trigger.

Mechanics checked: Arcane Power · Presence of Mind · Arcane Reach · Arcane Concentration

Open the Mage Arcane guide
AAffliction CorruptionWarlock · Affliction

Warlock · Affliction · Mechanics checked; comparative placement provisional.

Why we placed it here
Corruption’s opening, linked Shadow Bolts, death-based spread and tick-based healing connect application, ongoing pressure and recovery in a consistent Affliction plan.

The tradeoff
The spread-and-burst payoff needs qualifying deaths. Application and steady damage still have to carry an isolated enemy or an opening before the chain starts.

Mechanics checked: Seed of Corruption · Nightfall · Contagion · Siphon Life

Open the Warlock Affliction guide
ACat Form ShredDruid · Feral Combat

Druid · Feral Combat · Mechanics checked; comparative placement provisional.

Why we placed it here
A defined Shred opening, movement and offensive form benefits combine with Rake’s health, mitigation and bleed support, making a direct Feral direction.

The tradeoff
Cat Form excludes Dire Bear Form. Use the compatible package actually learned, preserve movement room and do not count an unselected second form as extra protection.

Mechanics checked: Cat Form · Rake · Savage Fury · Blood Frenzy

Open the Druid Feral Combat guide
AMoonfire BalanceDruid · Balance

Druid · Balance · Mechanics checked; comparative placement provisional.

Why we placed it here
Moonfire’s supplied opening, treant companions and two distinct free-Starfire sources give Balance a coherent spell-focused engine without needing a form capstone.

The tradeoff
A chance-based Starfire and a timed Starfire are different mechanisms. Companion scaling and recursive free-cast loops are not established by those descriptions.

Mechanics checked: Force of Nature · Improved Moonfire · Omen of Clarity · Starfall

Open the Druid Balance guide
BTrap SurvivalHunter · Survival

Hunter · Survival · Mechanics checked; comparative placement provisional.

Why we placed it here
A timed Explosive Trap and the Frost Trap opening supply a coherent area-control direction, supported by wider trap coverage and conditional roots.

The tradeoff
The automatic explosive appears at your feet, so placement matters. A chance to root is not a guaranteed escape or a proven control answer to every boss.

Mechanics checked: Wyvern Sting · Clever Traps · Entrapment · Trap Mastery

Open the Hunter Survival guide
BSinister StrikeRogue · Combat

Rogue · Combat · Mechanics checked; comparative placement provisional.

Why we placed it here
Automatic Sinister Strike pressure and nearby extra hits make a direct Combat core, with Adrenaline Rush adding a separate kill-triggered cooldown recovery.

The tradeoff
The full pace benefits from continued kills and nearby targets. In this reliability profile, it asks for more deliberate safety than a built-in absorb or rescue package.

Mechanics checked: Killing Spree · Blade Flurry · Adrenaline Rush · Improved Sinister Strike

Open the Rogue Combat guide
BRupture AssassinationRogue · Assassination

Rogue · Assassination · Mechanics checked; comparative placement provisional.

Why we placed it here
Strike-applied poison and Toxic Bloom provide a clear qualifying-death payoff, while Improved Poisons directly supports the separate Rupture component.

The tradeoff
Application, sustained damage and the first kill are different jobs. A death-triggered burst does not solve an isolated enemy before it dies or grant a missing spell.

Mechanics checked: Toxic Bloom · Deadly Poison · Improved Poisons · Vile Poisons

Open the Rogue Assassination guide
BConflagrate DestructionWarlock · Destruction

Warlock · Destruction · Mechanics checked; comparative placement provisional.

Why we placed it here
Immolate plus qualifying follow-up hits creates a documented explosion interaction, while Rain of Chaos adds automatic burning-ground pressure and a slowing effect.

The tradeoff
This is a multi-component setup: an applied effect and the correct follow-up must meet. Developing unrelated spells can delay the interaction the ranking is based on.

Mechanics checked: Conflagrate · Improved Searing Pain · Rain of Chaos · Bane

Open the Warlock Destruction guide
BDread Lord DemonologyWarlock · Demonology

Warlock · Demonology · Provisional placement: native interactions checked; companion uptime and comparative clears unmeasured.

Why we placed it here
The Dread Lord inherits Searing Pain upgrades, giving spell investment a documented companion payoff. Demon damage and their dedicated Echo support provide a clear specialization.

The tradeoff
Duration, cadence and mutually exclusive demon choices complicate the completed setup. Do not assume permanent pet uptime or stack incompatible alternatives to justify its placement.

Mechanics checked: Pact of the Nathrezim · Unholy Power · Demonic Echoes · Soul Devourer

Open the Warlock Demonology guide
BTree of Life RestorationDruid · Restoration

Druid · Restoration · Provisional placement: native heal-cast conditions checked; periodic-event interactions unmeasured.

Why we placed it here
Heal-cast damage, excess-healing shields and free recovery effects make an interesting sustain-to-pressure direction once the relevant Restoration milestones are active.

The tradeoff
The offensive pulse has a nearby-enemy condition, and passive ticks are not automatically qualifying heal casts. Keep damage functional and do not treat Swiftmend as a lethal-blow rescue.

Mechanics checked: Tree of Life · Tranquility · Swiftmend · Gift of Nature

A PROFILE, NOT A UNIVERSAL WINNER

How to use this ranking.

Choose a complete direction for a progressed character: its core spell is known, its relevant compatible milestones are learned through a legal Armory setup, and the zone suits its equipment. These are original recommendations for a dependable clear, not a first-run class ranking.

What earns a higher recommendation

  • A repeatable damage engine that does not need a particular legendary offer.
  • Useful pack coverage and enough continuing pressure before the next killing blow.
  • Recovery, shields or control that leave room to correct a mistake.
  • A clear upgrade plan with manageable positioning and trigger conditions.

Keep the conditions in view

  • No guaranteed necklace, maximum-rarity card sequence or unverified full talent allocation is assumed.
  • Positions are editorial comparisons of documented mechanics, without matched gameplay tests, DPS figures, win rates or measured clear times.
  • A tier is a fit for this solo-clear profile. Endless scaling, isolated bosses, co-op and a fresh account can change the choice.

C–F stay visible as part of the full scale. No current entry is forced into those rows; these are working directions selected for the guide library.

Version review

The original desktop artifact inspected was 0.133.0. All 27 core ability IDs and 156 selected native talent records were checked. The selected records are unchanged from 0.132.0; that earlier patch had revised Arcane Power’s cascade wording. Identical descriptions do not establish that every runtime value is unchanged.

The 0.133.0 feed describes co-op Ready Checks and leaving an active co-op run. This list concerns solo PvE. The 0.132.0 Arcane Power correction remains reflected in the inspected description; no comparative damage gain or universal runtime equivalence is claimed.

The linked build guides preserve their stated source snapshots. Use the current patch context here when comparing their priority.
