THE COBALT TAKE
Our pick for a satisfying close-range swarm build. The shared run had Rampage as its largest damage entry, ahead of Whirlwind and Flurry: judge this as a combined Fury engine, rather than crediting the whole result to one spell or necklace.
Desktop 0.111.0 + 0.130.0 checked. Reviewed 30 October 2026. All 44 displayed talents and 102 class abilities match across the installed client and the current original desktop release. Build priorities are our recommendations; exact ranks and offered amulet effects should be read in your client. Evidence & version scope →
The build in four decisions.
Learn it in the run, or check whether an unlocked talent starts you with it.
Better level-up rarity odds, when the current clear can afford the choice.
Look for the legendary remake of this spell in a jewelry offer.
Read its effect. A repeated offer of the worn amulet can empower it.
BEFORE YOU START THE RUN
Give the plan a starting point.
Armory before the run
Use the Fury tree to connect Rampage, Improved Whirlwind, Flurry and Death Wish, then work toward Bladestorm as your available points allow. Talents are persistent choices made between runs, and respecs are free. These are milestones to pursue, not an invented point-by-point allocation.
Make the engine available
Bladestorm explicitly grants Whirlwind at the start of a run and an additional free Whirlwind every three seconds. Before unlocking it, take Whirlwind when offered; do not plan around a spell that your current hero has not learned. Bloodthirst is a supported companion because two Fury talents explicitly improve both attacks.
Treat the amulet as a bonus
A legendary amulet can remake a known spell. Check the actual offer for Whirlwind, and compare the displayed effect with your current item. We have not verified a particular necklace name or transformation for this build; similarly named items in the client are insufficient evidence.

Read these in the context of your current clear. They are conditional priorities rather than a numeric stat weight or a fixed card sequence.

Learn your build’s core spell
Take the core ability when it is offered, or use a verified starting-spell talent you already have. The client describes knowing the spell as a condition for its legendary amulet offer.

Reliable damage first
A kill-driven build needs enemies to die. Take useful Whirlwind or Bloodthirst improvements and general damage when your clear has stalled; spreading every pick across unrelated spells can leave the central loop weak.
Area and practical positioning
Improved Whirlwind extends its reach. Wider coverage can help catch the swarm while you keep an escape lane; the talent text supports reach, not a guaranteed damage multiplier against a lone target.
Recovery, then offensive layers
Cooldown improvement, critical chance and critical damage are options to compare on their displayed values. Flurry itself is the documented extra-hit milestone here; it is not the critical-strike haste buff familiar from other Warcraft versions.
Enough sustain to keep moving
Blood Craze and lifesteal turn dealt damage into healing. They help only while you are dealing damage, so retain health or defensive upgrades when an approaching pack can kill you before that recovery matters.
Early Luck is conditional
Consider Luck when your current clear is already safe and many level-ups remain. Its verified tooltip concerns rarer level-up upgrades; it does not establish better guardian jewelry odds or guarantee a legendary Whirlwind amulet.
BUILD CONNECTIONS
Talents that support the idea.
Inspect the synergies, then compare them with the Armory’s Talents tab between runs. The recorded client describes milestones at 10, 20 and 30 points. Exact ranks and tunable values must be read in your client.
WHY IT MATTERS
Rampage
A kill-count milestone releases a free Whirlwind; the required count must be read at the current rank.
Hover or focus a talent on desktop; tap on mobile. This is a synergy reference. Node order is a reading order, not a point allocation or an unlock tree.

Your run plan.
Opening
Establish damage before collecting greed
Learn the build spell if your talents do not grant it, then secure a useful damaging upgrade. Move along the outside of incoming packs and collect experience through routes you can leave again. Delay a speculative Luck pick if the current waves are already pushing you away from experience.
Growing swarm
Let kills feed the next sweep
Once Rampage is unlocked, clearing ordinary enemies can supply extra Whirlwinds. Guide groups into the build’s working radius without deliberately surrounding yourself. The kill threshold is a rank-dependent placeholder in the extracted text; read its actual value in your client.
Elite or guardian
Keep the whole Fury package working
An isolated durable enemy supplies fewer ordinary kills. Keep Whirlwind and Bloodthirst relevant, maintain room to dodge and compare the encounter with swarm performance separately. A high total run number does not prove that Rampage has identical uptime against a lone guardian.
Next attempt
Read the meter as several linked effects
Record the client version, talent milestones, main upgrades and amulet tooltip alongside the result. Compare Rampage, Whirlwind and Flurry together, then change one choice. A screenshot without its setup cannot establish a universal best build.

QUICK ANSWERS
Warrior build questions
Does Whirlwind Fury require a legendary necklace? +
The verified talent package already supplies automatic Whirlwinds and supporting hits. A spell-specific legendary may change the run, but we cannot establish its exact mapping or claim that it is mandatory from this evidence.
Why does Rampage appear separately in the meter? +
The shared run records it separately, and the talent explicitly triggers free Whirlwinds from kills. Keep the entries visible when comparing runs; do not rename every related damage entry “Whirlwind”.

These recommendations are original analysis of the installed Aethus client, with the published mechanics cross-checked against the original 0.130.0 release. The core build direction was also suggested by a player who reports successful runs. We have not benchmarked these nine builds against one another. The recorded client’s tooltips establish the named mechanics; they do not establish a current-patch tier list, exact legendary odds or a complete numeric talent allocation.
Read-only review of class IDs, ability names and native talent/codex descriptions, cross-checked with the current 0.130.0 release. See the method, verified facts and limits.
