Exorcism Retribution
Azeroth Survivors Paladin

Retribution turns the Paladin toward Exorcism-centered offense rather than the Protection guide's health-scaled shield cycle. Its distinctive pieces are critical strikes that can launch Exorcism and a capstone that makes Exorcism burst around its target. The aim is to assemble that connection without mistaking an attractive proc for a complete defensive plan.

THE COBALT TAKE

The Art of War and Divine Storm describe a clear offensive relationship: critical strikes may supply an extra Exorcism, and Exorcism can gain nearby splash damage. Conviction and Holy damage support therefore deserve specific consideration. This is a source-based build concept, not a measured claim about the highest-damage Paladin setup.

Original builds were cross-checked between 0.111.0 and 0.130.0; the new alternate builds were checked directly against 0.130.0 native talent records. All 102 class abilities were checked. The build in four decisions.

Know Exorcism

Learn it in the run, or check whether an unlocked talent starts you with it.

Weigh early Luck

Better level-up rarity odds, when the current clear can afford the choice.

Inspect the amulet

Look for the legendary remake of this spell in a jewelry offer.

Reinforce the result

Read its effect. A repeated offer of the worn amulet can empower it.

BEFORE YOU START THE RUN

Give the plan a starting point.

Check which talent grants the starter

Seal of Command names Judgement as its opening, while Divine Storm names Exorcism. Their individual descriptions do not establish the precedence of two starting-spell changes equipped together. Check the actual opening shown by the game rather than promising two free starting spells.

Use the native Divine Storm description

Here Divine Storm is an Exorcism capstone: it adds a burst at the target. Do not import the familiar WoW melee ability, weapon rules or resource rotation into this route. The native description is the basis of this guide.

Read any offered amulet as a new decision

Known spells determine eligibility for their legendary amulets. Check which spell the offered item remakes and how it changes the build. A rarity investment through early Luck remains conditional on having enough damage and safety to continue.

Learn your build’s core spell

Take the core ability when it is offered, or use a verified starting-spell talent you already have. The client describes knowing the spell as a condition for its legendary amulet offer.

Exorcism as the active centerpiece

Divine Storm connects the opening spell and target-centered splash. Confirm Exorcism is present before spending the whole early run on an engine that requires it.

Critical-strike chance with a concrete purpose

Conviction supports critical strikes, and The Art of War gives those crits a chance to launch free Exorcism. The trigger is limited to once per second; it is not an unlimited chain merely because several enemies are being hit.

Holy damage and critical damage

Sanctity Aura and Vindication support different parts of the offense. Compare the active spells and current critical-strike reliability before treating either offer as automatically superior in every situation.

Room around the struck target

The capstone burst reaches enemies near its target. Read that location carefully: standing in a pack yourself is not a requirement stated by the talent. Let the burst assist coverage while preserving an exit.

Movement when positioning is the problem

Pursuit of Justice can address a practical weakness that another damage bonus will not solve. Choose it for the movement it grants rather than assuming every run needs the same fixed sequence of offers.

BUILD CONNECTIONS

Talents that support the idea.

Inspect the synergies, then compare them with the Armory’s Talents tab between runs. The recorded client describes milestones at 10, 20 and 30 points. Exact ranks and tunable values must be read in your client.

WHY IT MATTERS

Conviction

Increases critical-strike chance.

Hover or focus a talent on desktop; tap on mobile. This is a synergy reference. Node order is a reading order, not a point allocation or an unlock tree.

FROM FIRST PICKS TO A FINISHED ENGINE

Your run plan.

Opening

Commit to the spell you can actually use

Inspect the starting spell and equipped capstone. If the run begins with Judgement, use its existing output and the secondary-target benefit from Seal of Command when applicable. Treat the move toward Exorcism as a real transition rather than assuming it has already happened.

Developing run

Connect crits to useful bursts

When The Art of War and Divine Storm are active, ask whether the next offer improves the supply of critical strikes, the Exorcism hit, or the ability to survive between procs. Rare cards that do none of those jobs can be less coherent than a modest offer that solves the current gap.

Harder enemies

Keep the ordinary damage plan intact

A proc chance is not a schedule. Retain sufficient baseline damage and movement when a desired free Exorcism does not arrive. Re-read the actual necklace remake if one appears, because changing the spell may also change which subsequent upgrades make sense.

Keep the build focused.

  • Reading Divine Storm as the conventional WoW melee attack.

  • Expecting The Art of War to trigger without its chance roll or beyond its stated limit.

  • Assuming overlapping starter talents necessarily grant both opening spells.

  • Taking every offensive offer while leaving no way out of a crowded area.

QUICK ANSWERS

Paladin build questions

Do I need the Protection shield package? +

This route follows Retribution's Exorcism and critical-strike interactions. Defense still matters, but the Protection guide's health-scaled shield engine should not be assumed active here.

What is the required Exorcism necklace? +

We do not publish an unverified item-name mapping. Knowing Exorcism makes its spell amulet eligible; read the actual offer and its remake before committing.
