Choose contact that gives the team a useful turn
Before approaching, identify your partner's contribution. A healer needs a workable support route; a ranged damage partner needs an angle; another melee player needs a shared target rather than a separate chase. We would begin with a target both players can affect and reserve a route back. Charge has a minimum range, so it is not a substitute for every small reposition. Shadowstep creates a different kind of access, while an untalented melee hybrid may rely on slows and selected movement tools. Match the approach to the button you actually have.
Current surrounding damage auras, including Bladestorm, no longer reach enemies hidden by walls or pillars. Staying nominally close does not prove the target can be hit. Version 0.28 also preserves airborne momentum when a root, slow or stun arrives mid-jump. Our advice is to choose a supported landing before committing to a jump near the bridge edge; continued movement does not mean the control failed.
Arrive with the resource for the next job
Warrior's Rage, Rogue's Energy, Feral's Energy and combo points, and the Mana used by Retribution or Enhancement create different decisions. Contact alone does not guarantee that the intended stun, interrupt or finisher is ready. Keep enough resource for a promised Kick or Pummel. Combat Rogue can maintain Slice and Dice to improve its swing-and-Energy cycle, while Redirect is a selected answer to moving combo points between targets. We would announce a target switch early enough to prepare it, rather than discover the resource cost after using the movement cooldown.
Check facing, rear access and range
Feral Shred normally needs the target's rear; Ravage permits an alternative against stunned or rooted enemies. Gouge normally needs the enemy to face the Rogue, unless Dirty Tricks removes that condition. These are reasons to read positioning requirements instead of repeatedly pressing a rejected ability. Paladin Judgment now has a shorter reach than older guides describe, so check current access before relying on a ranged follow-up. We would use an available builder or support action when the preferred angle is unrealistic. Turning an exposed teammate into a casualty to force one particular attack is a poor exchange.
Keep area pressure compatible with control
Whirlwind and Divine Storm can involve nearby enemies, while other choices introduce cleave or summoned attackers. Check who is standing beside the pressure target. An area hit that ends your teammate's Polymorph or Hex can remove the reason your offensive window was safe. Combat Blade Flurry explicitly spares targets under fragile control, but that promise belongs to that effect, not every attack on the bar. Our advice is to name the untouched target and move the fight away from it where practical. Evaluate every added source of area pressure against that assignment.
Use the retreat to preserve a second attempt
When the first push has failed, return toward support before the last defensive is gone. Fury's Enrage increases incoming as well as outgoing damage, and talent choices alter that trade. Retribution can contribute healing or Freedom, but its Mana and Forbearance restrictions remain relevant. Evasion normally helps against weapon pressure; Combat Readiness changes its function if selected. We would preserve one answer for the retreat rather than stack everything at the beginning. A slow or a well-timed stop can create the walking distance that makes a later recovery possible.
Practise one route on the current arena
Dalaran Sewers adds a central platform reached by stairs, with crates and the platform itself affecting sightlines. Treat that geometry as a routing question rather than assume you can jump directly onto every useful surface. Blade's Edge also rewards knowing how support reaches across its bridge and pillars. Pick one practice route: approach, apply pressure, return toward the partner after the opponent answers. Review the point where the team separated. The partner planner helps name what the other spec needs; the ability explorer supplies current range and condition references.

QUICK ANSWERS
Clear up the next decision.
Should I follow a low-health opponent around every obstacle?+
Check what the pursuit costs the pair. If support cannot reach and your remaining answers are gone, the low health bar alone is not enough reason. Call the change and choose a route both players can understand.
Does every melee spec use the same builder-spender rotation?+
No. The recorded resources and conditions differ, and selected talents can change target switching or ability access. Use the native spec plan rather than transfer a Holy Power, Rage or combo-point rule merely because the attacks look familiar.
SOURCE REVIEW
Where the advice comes from.
Toolkit records were inspected from the original public client, version 0.28.1, on 3 Nov 2026. Suggested positioning, practice priorities and tier placements are Cobalt’s editorial assessment. They are not measured win rates or a tournament ranking. Server-side tuning and selected talents can change an exchange.
