HORDES OF AZEROTH
THE AZEROTH SURVIVAL JOURNALHordes of Azeroth
FIELD EDITION
0.6.2

CLASS FIELD NOTE / KEEP THE CIRCUIT CONNECTED.

Hordes of Azeroth
Shaman build guide.

Shaman works best when you can explain how one effect feeds the next. Static can lead into Earth Shock, while Enhancement connects repeated Shaman spell hits to free lightning.

THE ENGINE

Static discharge, repeated hits or a totem position

A tier / first-run opinion ↗

CHOOSE A DIRECTION

Three routes.
One main engine.

These are qualitative starting directions, not a simulated best-in-slot build or an exact talent allocation.

01 / Elemental

Lightning Bolt + Chain Lightning + Earth Shock

Build Static across the group and give Earth Shock a useful discharge target.

02 / Enhancement

Windfury + Stormstrike + Maelstrom Weapon

The current Maelstrom trigger counts other Shaman spell hits, with Stormstrike counting twice. This is broader than the old every-fifth-melee-hit preview.

03 / Totemic

Searing Totem + Magma Totem + Healing Stream

A position-based plan. Establish a safe patch of ground and be willing to leave it when a boss telegraphs danger.

SKILL CONNECTIONS

Give the next offer a job.

Lightning Bolt
The starting lightning effect establishes the Static theme.
Chain Lightning
Helps the Elemental route reach a group instead of only the nearest enemy.
Earth Shock
Consumes Static and now restores Lightning Shield charges as part of that interaction.
Lightning Shield
The current notes describe periodic zaps per held charge, and each zap grants Shield.

A DECISION ORDER, NOT STAT WEIGHTS

What matters first?

  1. 01Maintain safe access to your chosen range
  2. 02Connect Static, Maelstrom or totem effects
  3. 03Add protection before another incompatible payoff

We do not publish a universal Strength, Haste or Crit ratio for this class. An item’s value depends on the spells, conditions and survival problem in your actual run. Read the offer before replacing a piece that is keeping the engine alive.

THE RUN, IN THREE QUESTIONS

From the first pack
to the boss.

Opening: what already works?

Keep the starting lightning doing work as you learn the route through the first pack. Decide whether you are building a ranged Static circuit or preparing to spend more time near enemies. Avoid buying a close-range payoff before you can survive that position.

Middle: what is the missing connection?

For Elemental, keep application and discharge together. For Enhancement, judge a new spell by whether its hits contribute to the current Maelstrom plan. For Totemic, moving a short distance can be useful; moving out of every effect all the time can undo the plan.

Boss: what changes when the pack is gone?

A stationary totem plan needs a backup route when the ground becomes unsafe. Static and shield recovery can support an exchange, but they do not make an incoming marked attack harmless. Re-enter the useful area only after the attack resolves.

CHECK THE CURRENT TOOLTIP

The mistake to avoid.

Do not import the older every-fifth-melee-hit Maelstrom text. The 0.6.2 release uses every third hit from other Shaman spells and explicitly gives Stormstrike two hits.

Why this learning-tier placement?

Shaman has several practical ways to connect damage and defence, but understanding the trigger chain adds a step compared with the most forgiving starter recommendations.

The full tier list compares how approachable the first learning run feels from the documented toolkit. It does not rank developed characters, co-op compositions or unlimited Mythic performance. Our recommendation can change when the class rules change.

Before the next run.

Is this an exact talent tree or guaranteed best build?

No. It is a source-reviewed route through the class’s main decisions. Exact point allocations and universal stat weights are not established here. Check the current offer and your character’s unlocked options.

Can I use a build from Project Ebonhold or Azeroth Survivors?

Those are different projects with different mechanics. Shared Warcraft class and spell names do not make a build portable. Use the Hordes 0.6.2 reference and the spell descriptions in your own run.

Know the version.
Know the boundary.

Release v0.6.2, published 2 November, is our current reference. The author’s release notes take precedence over older class-preview tooltips. Recommendations are original qualitative analysis; we have not measured class win rates or playtested these builds.
