HORDES OF AZEROTH
THE AZEROTH SURVIVAL JOURNALHordes of Azeroth
FIELD EDITION
0.6.2

CLASS FIELD NOTE / LET THE PACK COME TO YOU.

Hordes of Azeroth
Hunter build guide.

Hunter offers three recognisable plans, but mixing all three too early can hide what is actually clearing enemies. Start with shots, pets or traps and use movement to bring targets through that engine.

THE ENGINE

Pets, marked targets or a prepared trap route

A tier / first-run opinion ↗

CHOOSE A DIRECTION

Three routes.
One main engine.

These are qualitative starting directions, not a simulated best-in-slot build or an exact talent allocation.

01 / Beast Mastery

Call Pet + Pack Leader

Pets provide a damage source while you concentrate on the next safe route. In 0.6.2, pet bites from Pack Leader also mark enemies.

02 / Marksmanship

Hunter’s Mark + Volley + Aimed Shot

Use marked groups and lined-up enemies to make ranged coverage purposeful. Volley now feeds Explosive Arrows into Aimed Shot after repeated hits.

03 / Survival

Serpent Sting + Viper Trap + Volatile Trap

A poison-and-fire ground plan. Viper Trap replaces Frost Trap; Volatile Trap replaces Snake Trap in the current release.

SKILL CONNECTIONS

Give the next offer a job.

Arcane Shot
The starting ranged attack is a stable reference while you learn which group it is targeting.
Call Pet
A useful second source of pressure when movement is demanding your attention.
Hunter’s Mark
Connects the ranged plan by making its chosen group a meaningful focus.
Viper Trap
A current poison option, with Corrosive Vipers and Venom Burst named as evolutions in the release notes.

A DECISION ORDER, NOT STAT WEIGHTS

What matters first?

  1. 01Keep ranged uptime while moving safely
  2. 02Commit to shots, pets or trap coverage
  3. 03Add the matching condition or follow-up

We do not publish a universal Strength, Haste or Crit ratio for this class. An item’s value depends on the spells, conditions and survival problem in your actual run. Read the offer before replacing a piece that is keeping the engine alive.

THE RUN, IN THREE QUESTIONS

From the first pack
to the boss.

Opening: what already works?

Use the range to keep looking ahead rather than looking only at the enemy currently taking damage. If you choose pets, keep them contributing while you travel. If a trap appears first, circle so enemies cross its area instead of abandoning it immediately.

Middle: what is the missing connection?

For Marksmanship, make Volley and Aimed Shot serve the same fight rather than firing at separated fragments of the horde. A Survival route needs enemies to pass through its ground effects; safe spacing matters as much as another damage pick.

Boss: what changes when the pack is gone?

A boss can move away from a prepared trap patch. Rebuild a safe route around the new position rather than chasing directly through the attack lane. Pets and ranged shots may keep working during movement, but do not assume this removes the need to dodge.

CHECK THE CURRENT TOOLTIP

The mistake to avoid.

Do not follow a current-build instruction that asks you to choose Frost Trap or Snake Trap under those old names. Their replacements change what the offer does; a slow-based old plan does not automatically become a poison plan.

Why this learning-tier placement?

Range and pets give Hunter useful breathing room. Trap placement and automatic target selection still need attention, keeping it below the simplest sustain recommendation for a brand-new player.

The full tier list compares how approachable the first learning run feels from the documented toolkit. It does not rank developed characters, co-op compositions or unlimited Mythic performance. Our recommendation can change when the class rules change.

Before the next run.

Is this an exact talent tree or guaranteed best build?

No. It is a source-reviewed route through the class’s main decisions. Exact point allocations and universal stat weights are not established here. Check the current offer and your character’s unlocked options.

Can I use a build from Project Ebonhold or Azeroth Survivors?

Those are different projects with different mechanics. Shared Warcraft class and spell names do not make a build portable. Use the Hordes 0.6.2 reference and the spell descriptions in your own run.

Release v0.6.2, published 2 November, is our current reference. The author’s release notes take precedence over older class-preview tooltips. Recommendations are original qualitative analysis; we have not measured class win rates or playtested these builds.
