HORDES OF AZEROTH
THE AZEROTH SURVIVAL JOURNALHordes of Azeroth
FIELD EDITION
0.6.2

CLASS FIELD NOTE / TURN BREATHING ROOM INTO PROGRESS.

Hordes of Azeroth
Priest build guide.

Priest is a strong starting point for a player who wants room to observe the arena. Its defensive tools have offensive connections, but a recovery-heavy plan still needs a damage source that can finish tougher enemies.

THE ENGINE

Recovery, Shield and a chosen Holy or Decay payoff

S tier / first-run opinion ↗

CHOOSE A DIRECTION

Three routes.
One main engine.

These are qualitative starting directions, not a simulated best-in-slot build or an exact talent allocation.

01 / Discipline

Power Word: Shield + Penance

Shield and responsive Holy damage form a manageable survival plan. Penance can convert excess healing into Shield.

02 / Holy

Smite + Halo + Chastise

Smite and Halo support a repeated Chastise cycle. Renew adds a useful bridge to a Shield plan after the current update.

03 / Shadow

Shadow Word: Pain + Mind Blast + Mind Flay

Spread Decay, then use the targets with the condition. Mind Flay’s current damage benefits from Decay stacks.

SKILL CONNECTIONS

Give the next offer a job.

Smite
A starting Holy attack that helps bring Chastise back sooner.
Power Word: Shield
Buys time to move, with a movement benefit while it holds.
Renew
In 0.6.2, excess healing can refill an existing Power Word: Shield.
Mind Blast
For a Shadow route, connects the strongest Decay setup to neighbouring enemies.

A DECISION ORDER, NOT STAT WEIGHTS

What matters first?

  1. 01Keep one dependable recovery or Shield loop
  2. 02Add repeatable Holy damage or Decay application
  3. 03Improve the matching payoff and safe movement

We do not publish a universal Strength, Haste or Crit ratio for this class. An item’s value depends on the spells, conditions and survival problem in your actual run. Read the offer before replacing a piece that is keeping the engine alive.

THE RUN, IN THREE QUESTIONS

From the first pack
to the boss.

Opening: what already works?

Use the starter and a defensive layer to stay alive long enough to understand the first boss. Add damage before collecting every available healing option. Surviving indefinitely without making progress is not the goal of a first-clear plan.

Middle: what is the missing connection?

Choose Holy pressure or Decay as the main offensive connection. A Shield route can benefit from Renew’s current overflow interaction, but first check that both pieces are actually present. Shadow wants repeatable Decay application before a stack-based payoff.

Boss: what changes when the pack is gone?

Crowd control on normal enemies is not a promise to disable the boss. Keep moving through telegraphs even when Shield is active. During longer fights, favour an offensive loop that keeps triggering rather than relying on kills to restore momentum.

CHECK THE CURRENT TOOLTIP

The mistake to avoid.

Do not treat Psychic Scream or Shackle as universal boss control. Their documented target restrictions matter. Renew’s new Shield interaction also requires Power Word: Shield; it is not free permanent Shield on its own.

Why this learning-tier placement?

Priest earns S as an approachable learning recommendation because protection and recovery create time to read attacks. It remains an editorial judgement, with no survival-rate dataset behind it.

The full tier list compares how approachable the first learning run feels from the documented toolkit. It does not rank developed characters, co-op compositions or unlimited Mythic performance. Our recommendation can change when the class rules change.

Before the next run.

Is this an exact talent tree or guaranteed best build?

No. It is a source-reviewed route through the class’s main decisions. Exact point allocations and universal stat weights are not established here. Check the current offer and your character’s unlocked options.

Can I use a build from Project Ebonhold or Azeroth Survivors?

Those are different projects with different mechanics. Shared Warcraft class and spell names do not make a build portable. Use the Hordes 0.6.2 reference and the spell descriptions in your own run.
