HORDES OF AZEROTH
THE AZEROTH SURVIVAL JOURNALHordes of Azeroth
FIELD EDITION
0.6.2

CLASS FIELD NOTE / CONTROL THE SPACE BEFORE THE DAMAGE.

Hordes of Azeroth
Mage build guide.

Mage is a good choice for a player who likes to decide where the horde can safely stand. Frost is the clearest learning plan; Fire and Arcane change what you ask from positioning.

THE ENGINE

Frost control, Burning pressure or a Blink cycle

A tier / first-run opinion ↗

CHOOSE A DIRECTION

Three routes.
One main engine.

These are qualitative starting directions, not a simulated best-in-slot build or an exact talent allocation.

01 / Frost

Frostbolt + Blizzard + Frost Nova

Apply Chill, create frozen targets and make the Frost payoff meaningful. The current Blink also interacts with Chill and Frost Nova.

02 / Fire

Fireball + Flamestrike + Fire Blast

Build Burning on enemies, then support a payoff that values that condition. Pyroblast adds heavier targeted pressure.

03 / Arcane

Blink + Arcane Explosion + Arcane Missiles

Your movement becomes part of the damage sequence. Plan the landing area before spending a movement charge.

SKILL CONNECTIONS

Give the next offer a job.

Frostbolt
A clear starting connection between Chill, frozen targets and Frost damage.
Blizzard
Area coverage that helps shape the group instead of only hitting one target.
Blink
Takes a spell slot. The current release adds Chill around the landing point and refreshes Frost Nova.
Fire Blast
For a Fire route, a payoff that wants targets already carrying Burning.

A DECISION ORDER, NOT STAT WEIGHTS

What matters first?

  1. 01Control a safe path through the horde
  2. 02Make one school’s condition and payoff agree
  3. 03Improve damage without spending every escape

We do not publish a universal Strength, Haste or Crit ratio for this class. An item’s value depends on the spells, conditions and survival problem in your actual run. Read the offer before replacing a piece that is keeping the engine alive.

THE RUN, IN THREE QUESTIONS

From the first pack
to the boss.

Opening: what already works?

Use range to look at the next gap. With Frost, adding control can make existing damage much safer to deliver. If the first strong offers point toward Fire, build Burning deliberately instead of carrying an isolated payoff while expecting Frost to supply its condition.

Middle: what is the missing connection?

Arcane asks you to think about the place you leave and the place you arrive. A strong Blink sequence is still a bad exchange if it lands in a marked attack. Keep a charge or a clear walking route for the next emergency.

Boss: what changes when the pack is gone?

Do not assume normal-enemy freezes stop a boss’s scripted pattern. Watch the boss rather than your own spell effects. A Fire boss plan needs recurring application; a Frost plan still needs an opening in which the damage can land.

CHECK THE CURRENT TOOLTIP

The mistake to avoid.

Meteor’s crater no longer leaves Burning ground in 0.6.2. Do not plan a current Fire engine around that removed persistent patch, or assume a visually similar old clip demonstrates it.

Why this learning-tier placement?

Frost control and range make Mage approachable. Arcane movement-as-offence and the limited spell slot budget add decisions that a player should learn gradually.

The full tier list compares how approachable the first learning run feels from the documented toolkit. It does not rank developed characters, co-op compositions or unlimited Mythic performance. Our recommendation can change when the class rules change.

Before the next run.

Is this an exact talent tree or guaranteed best build?

No. It is a source-reviewed route through the class’s main decisions. Exact point allocations and universal stat weights are not established here. Check the current offer and your character’s unlocked options.

Can I use a build from Project Ebonhold or Azeroth Survivors?

Those are different projects with different mechanics. Shared Warcraft class and spell names do not make a build portable. Use the Hordes 0.6.2 reference and the spell descriptions in your own run.
