THE BUILD PRIORITY

  1. 01Keep a clear facing direction and an exit.
  2. 02Fund the repeated normal action before extra channels.
  3. 03If you choose Nyx or Selene, include their extra engine in your plan.

UNDERWORLD NOTE

A clear starting plan.

The Coat combines close-range pressure with seeking ranged attacks and a directional guard. It is a good choice when you want an active defensive decision, provided you remember that a guard facing one way cannot solve every danger in the arena.

Melinoë’s aspect improves speed. Nyx adds Boost and Nightspawn, Selene supplies Sky Fall and Shine, and Shiva uses an alternate absorb-and-spend pattern. Build around the equipped version rather than equating all four with the same punch loop.

Our suggested learning start: Melinoë.

This is a practical first-clear route. If you already know another aspect’s timing, use the aspect notes below to adapt the sequence.

UNDERWORLD NOTE

A sequence you can repeat.

  1. 01

    Face the real threat

Put the most important attacker in front of you and check the space behind. Cast can keep a smaller pursuer from ruining a controlled guard position.

  2. 02

    Answer one commitment

Use the guard/retaliation action deliberately rather than holding it indefinitely. A safe answer is the cue to take a short Attack sequence.

  3. 03

    Pressure at range

Seeking Specials let you contribute while moving away from a crowded melee. Watch whether the shots actually find the target before repeating.

  4. 04

Change position before the next wave

Sprint or Dash to a clear angle. Nyx makes a purposeful Boost route part of its offense; Selene asks you to time the Hex setup around Omega follow-up.

UNDERWORLD NOTE

Give each Boon a job.

The choices below are starting directions and fallbacks. They are not a guarantee that a random run offers every piece. Read the actual range, trigger and Magick condition before taking a named choice.

Attack

Wave Strike / Flame Strike

Fast normal pressure can use additional damage. Choose according to how often your punches reach a target rather than their appearance in a finished build screenshot.

Special

A complementary damage or curse choice

Seeking shots can spread pressure while you reposition. Nyx’s room-clearing identity and Melinoë’s simple baseline need not share every secondary choice.

Gain

A recovery effect matched to your channels

A primarily normal-moves run can keep spending modest. A Boost or Hex-oriented pivot needs you to recheck the Magick budget.

Match the Arcana to this sequence

UNDERWORLD NOTE

Choose the action, then the Hammer.

A Hammer can change which action deserves your next upgrade. Check the equipped aspect, eligible moves and added costs rather than treating three suggestions as a guaranteed package.

Shimmering Rockets

A room-pressure direction when you already rely on Specials. The room-clear benefit does not automatically solve a single-target fight.

Rapid Frame

A normal-Attack direction that rewards staying on target. Keep a defensive turn even when the faster rhythm feels comfortable.

Elephant Rockets

A Shiva-specific direction. Read it in the alternate moveset rather than assuming it will appear on a default Coat run.

UNDERWORLD NOTE

Four ways to play this weapon.

STANDARD ASPECT

Melinoë

Faster Attacks, movement and Sprint.

Use the extra responsiveness to move between short offensive turns. It is our simplest entry to the Coat because it does not ask for another setup meter.

Watch for: Speed can hide poor positioning until a crowded room punishes it. Keep checking the angle behind your guard.

STANDARD ASPECT

Selene

Sky Fall applies Shine for Omega follow-up.

Let the Hex start a planned damage window and spend Omega moves while its effect is useful. A sustainable Magick loop supports both halves of the setup.

Watch for: A normal-Attack-only plan does not make full use of Shine’s Omega vulnerability.

STANDARD ASPECT

Nyx

Boost creates Nightspawn and split pressure.

Choose a deliberate Boost route through useful space, then exploit the extra strikes for a busy room. Keep a direct sequence for a single Guardian.

Watch for: Do not equate split projectile count with every projectile hitting one target.

HIDDEN ASPECT

Shiva

Purifying Grace absorbs your Special blasts to become Destructive.

Set up the absorption in safe space, then spend the resulting strength on a deliberate offensive window. Learn the alternate sequence before optimising it.

Watch for: Setup and absorption ask for attention. Starting the sequence under uncontrolled pressure can waste both your safety and the payoff.

UNDERWORLD NOTE

Fix the awkward moment.

I get hit while guarding

Look for a side angle, ground effect or a differently timed follow-up. Directional defense is a tool to learn, not a promise that holding a button makes the room safe.

Nyx clears rooms but the boss feels slow

Nightspawn’s split targeting is not identical to concentrating every hit into one target. Keep an ordinary direct-damage sequence ready for the Guardian.

Selene never pays off

Sky Fall’s Shine is meant to support Omega damage. If you never use Omega moves after applying it, you are leaving part of the aspect unspent.

UNDERWORLD NOTE

Take one question into the next room.

Let one predictable enemy show you an attack. Face it, answer with the Coat’s defensive action, then move away before trying again. Once that is comfortable, add a short punish and a ranged Special during the reset.

Keep the same aspect while testing that one habit. Once it works, change one Boon choice or one movement decision and observe what improves.
