THE FIRST NIGHT / FIELD NOTE 01

Hades II Beginner Guide: A Better Plan for Your First Clear

Leave the Crossroads with one damage plan, one defensive habit and one thing to learn. A failed run can still answer all three.

UNDERWORLD NOTE

Choose a small plan you can finish

Your first objective is a repeatable early room, not a completed screenshot of somebody else’s endgame build. Take the Witch’s Staff if you want to alternate ranged pressure with short close-range openings. Choose the Sister Blades if quick approaches and exits feel more natural. Keep the same weapon for several attempts so a changed enemy pattern does not get confused with a changed moveset.

Before the first Boon, name your main button. If it is normal Special, prioritise an effect that helps normal Special. If you switch to Omega moves later, recheck the Magick cost and the wording of your upgrades. A build is a sequence you can pay for and land, not a collection of individually attractive icons.

UNDERWORLD NOTE

Use Cast to buy an exit

Cast creates a place you can organise the fight around. Put it where a pursuer is going, then move to an open side. This is useful even before you add a large Cast damage effect. It gives you a moment to aim and helps separate a close threat from a ranged attacker.

Dashing without a destination can put you behind one enemy and in front of another. Before you attack, identify the clear space you intend to leave through. If the room becomes difficult to read, take a smaller offensive turn. Spending a few seconds regaining control is a useful decision, not a failed damage rotation.

UNDERWORLD NOTE

Spend permanent progress on your current obstacle

Use the Altar of Ashes to understand what each Arcana condition asks of your run. A Life buffer or recovery can be more useful while learning than a damage card you rarely activate. Current names matter: Death grants Death Defiance; Eternity is a channel-time defensive effect. Older Early Access guides can use different card names.

Use gathered resources for available progression you can actually complete, and read the Cauldron’s requirements rather than farming an unverified recipe from memory. Talk to characters between nights. Story and system unlocks can depend on several interactions, so one missing conversation does not automatically mean you made the wrong build.

UNDERWORLD NOTE

Build in a useful order

Rarity is one part of an offering. A less rare effect on the button you press every few seconds can do more work than a spectacular effect on an action you barely use. Before choosing, ask where it enters the sequence and which existing problem it solves.

  • First, get a functional effect on your main damage action.
  • Next, add control, defense or a second setup effect you can use without breaking the sequence.
  • If you channel repeatedly, solve Magick recovery before making the sequence more expensive.
  • Use later damage upgrades to reinforce a working plan. Treat a Duo or Legendary as a possible improvement, not a requirement for the first region.

UNDERWORLD NOTE

Keep one useful observation from the attempt

After returning, pick the earliest moment the run became awkward. Were you out of Magick, collecting ammunition through a hazard, or finishing an attack after the enemy recovered? Write down that specific failure in your own words. Your next attempt should change one of those decisions.

Keep combat practice separate from resource collection when setting expectations. A run that unlocks an Arcana card or teaches a Guardian’s dangerous tell has still moved the file forward. Once ordinary rooms feel controlled, add complexity one system at a time: an alternate aspect, an Omega engine or a higher-Fear condition.
