Melee, Laceration & Dash Reset Guide

A melee plan needs an approach, a reason to commit and a way back out. Separate the damage condition from the movement that makes it usable, then test a small loop before stacking more effects.

THE DECISION IN ONE LINE

Approach → condition → contact → exit. Each part needs to work.

01

Find an approach

A better melee hit does not remove other enemies’ firing lanes.

02

Observe the state

Laceration sources can be conditional. Confirm what happened to the actual target.

03

Use the reset

Observe Melee Reclaim’s reset and leave toward the landing you chose beforehand.

REASSESS WHEN

Leave the experiment when you can connect but cannot choose a readable exit.

FIELD NOTE 01

Solve the approach before shopping for a bonus

Start with the target you can reach deliberately. Read the other firing lanes, decide where the approach ends and preserve an alternative if the opening closes. A module can improve a hit without making the journey to that hit sensible. Our starting advice is to practise reaching one ordinary target with a familiar loadout before changing several attack conditions.

The Recalibration update changed melee scaling so it remains relevant as enemies grow stronger. That supports considering melee beyond the opening rooms, but it does not certify a particular sequence as safe against every machine or anomaly.

FIELD NOTE 02

Give Laceration a clear job in the encounter

Laceration is a state that increases the melee damage an affected enemy takes. Think of applying it and spending the opening as two related jobs. If you intend to prepare a target with weapon fire, observe the state rather than assume every shot supplied the required stack. If you intend to apply it through melee, make sure the first approach is useful even before the rest of the plan develops.

Do not import a stack cap, decay duration or damage multiplier from a different game. The reviewed developer description establishes the direction of the effect, not those numerical rules.

FIELD NOTE 03

Choose one way to investigate the condition

Serrated Edge can apply Laceration on a melee hit. Critical Wounds can apply it through critical hits. Sharp Debris gives destruction another possible route into the same state. These descriptions suggest different questions; they are not three mandatory ingredients to install together. Choose the route that fits the actions you already perform and keep the rest of the encounter familiar.

For a first comparison, we would prefer being able to explain when the condition appeared over producing the largest collection of simultaneous effects. A chance-based source should remain a chance-based expectation.

FIELD NOTE 04

Treat Melee Reclaim as an observed reset

Melee Reclaim resets the dash cooldown when a melee hit connects. The useful question is not simply whether the reset exists, but whether your approach lets you use it deliberately. Identify where the next dash would take you before closing distance. A reset that occurs while you have no readable exit may not solve the problem that ended the previous attempt.

Our suggested drill is to approach one target, connect once, confirm the reset and leave toward a chosen landing. Do not turn that drill into a claimed infinite loop or assume every target state permits the same sequence.

FIELD NOTE 05

Pick airborne, sliding or held attacks for a reason

Drop Matrix rewards an airborne melee attack; KNEE/BREAKER rewards a sliding one. Focused Strike changes the decision again by rewarding a held melee input. Read these as different commitments. A room that gives you a clear jump and landing may support one question, while a low route with a predictable approach may support another.

Test the input and the target access before attributing the result to a damage modifier. Trying several new movement sequences at once makes it difficult to tell whether the failure came from the route, the timing or the chosen attack.

FIELD NOTE 06

Build a small loop and stop when it stops explaining the fight

Write the loop in plain language: approach, apply or observe the condition, land the intended attack, then exit. Name what would count as a useful result. Perhaps you want to confirm the reset, keep a landing readable or discover whether the state appears often enough for your plan. Those are concrete observations even when the attempt does not finish the whole run.

Open the editable melee experiment to prepare the check. The pairing is an original practice question, not a guarantee that the current module grid accepts every combination. Inspect the actual slots and conditions before committing.

BEFORE THE NEXT ATTEMPT

Your field checklist

  1. Choose a reachable target and a readable exit.
  2. Identify how the target receives Laceration.
  3. Keep chance-based stacks separate from guaranteed expectations.
  4. Confirm the Melee Reclaim reset after a connected hit.
  5. Practise one airborne, sliding or held attack condition at a time.
  6. Record the approach and exit, not only the largest damage number.

QUICK ANSWERS

Keep the limits clear.

Is a Laceration setup a guaranteed best melee build?

No. The source describes the effect and several ways to apply it; our guide proposes a controlled way to investigate those jobs. Current equipment legality, event order, numerical tuning and encounter safety are not simulated here.

Can I assume Melee Reclaim makes me permanently invulnerable?

No. A cooldown reset is not a promise of continuous protection or an automatically safe route. Observe the actual reset, read the next threat and use the game’s current dash behavior rather than invent an endless immunity sequence.
