01 / THE FIRST EXPERIMENT
A starting build with one job.
Use Shadow as the first solo experiment. Move to a dedicated healing role when you have a group and a clear reason for that role. A class name alone does not make healer and damage Echoes interchangeable.
A starting experiment, not a guaranteed best-in-slot setup or a prescribed point allocation. Inspect the current normal builder and your realm’s tooltip before committing.
02 / CHOOSE THE ROLE FIRST
Three talent directions.
Shadow
Our first solo learning direction. A damage-over-time plan needs enough time and space for its effects to work.
Open official builder ↗Discipline
A group-support route whose success depends on the allies and protective actions involved. Evaluate the job you are performing, not a solo damage ranking.
Open official builder ↗Holy
A healing-first experiment. Separate an effect triggered by a direct heal from one triggered by Renew ticks.

Read the trigger.
Then choose the effect.
These are real Priest records from the default public Echo Builder, checked on 3 November. Availability and usefulness are different questions; this is a shortlist to investigate, not a promised draw.
Stonefist BarrageSmite, Flash Heal, Greater Heal or Mind Blast
The card can connect to very different roles. Select a spell that you genuinely cast instead of assembling an incoherent hybrid from the tooltip list.

Arcane BombardmentPeriodic Shadow Word: Pain damage or Renew healing has a chance
This gives a clear question for a periodic build. It does not say that every Priest damage-over-time or heal-over-time effect qualifies.

Temporal PressureSelected shield, damage and healing cooldowns
Identify the listed spell that matters to your role before valuing haste for the interaction.

A stat decision order.
Use this qualitative order to decide what to inspect next. It is not a set of simulated weights, universal caps or an instruction to ignore your active tree.
- 01A clearly chosen solo-damage or ally-support job
- 02Survival and enough casting opportunity to perform it
- 03Spell-oriented primary gearing for the chosen role
- 04Haste or critical strike when its actual trigger benefits
- 05Secondary refinements after the direct / periodic split is settled
If enemies reach you before the periodic plan pays off, shorten the encounter, improve the safe opening or change the experiment. More long-duration effects can deepen the same problem.
05 / THE LOOP
Make the next press useful.
Stonefist and Arcane Bombardment illustrate two different trigger families for Priest. A direct spell or heal is one route; a periodic Shadow Word: Pain or Renew effect is another.
Perform the actual eligible action.
Check whether the intended result had a useful opportunity.
Change the failing step before adding another layer.
The mistake to catch early.
Assuming a healing Echo improves your own damage merely because both appear on the Priest screen. Follow the recipient and trigger written on the card.
When an interaction seems absent, read the precise trigger and class record first. An effect with the same name on another class can use a different condition. PTR examples can also differ from the default catalog.
One useful experiment.
Compare a direct-cast attempt with a periodic-effect attempt against the same manageable pack. Note how much movement is needed before the planned effect has time to matter.
Keep the encounter, role and ordinary sequence as consistent as practical. Write down what changed and what remained awkward. Your own observation is more useful than pretending this guide measured a universal winner.
