01 / THE FIRST EXPERIMENT
A starting build with one job.
Beast Mastery is our approachable first experiment if you enjoy a companion. Use Marksmanship when your main goal is understanding how a repeated shot triggers an Echo. Neither choice is a verified damage winner.
A starting experiment, not a guaranteed best-in-slot setup or a prescribed point allocation. Inspect the current normal builder and your realm’s tooltip before committing.
02 / CHOOSE THE ROLE FIRST
Three talent directions.
Beast Mastery
A pet-led learning route. Watch the pet and your own firing position as two separate jobs rather than assuming one protects the other.
Open official builder ↗Marksmanship
Use the direct shot cycle to evaluate on-cast effects. Keep a clear view of the next safe firing position.
Open official builder ↗Survival
A different shot-and-control experiment. Check the exact active shot named on an Echo before carrying over a Marksmanship assumption.

Read the trigger.
Then choose the effect.
These are real Hunter records from the default public Echo Builder, checked on 3 November. Availability and usefulness are different questions; this is a shortlist to investigate, not a promised draw.
Stonefist BarrageAuto Shot critical strikes have a chance
This version is conditional. It is not the same guaranteed on-cast trigger described by another class with the same Echo name.

Arcane BombardmentArcane Shot, Aimed Shot, Explosive Shot or Chimera Shot
Pick the shot that belongs to your current build. More eligible names do not mean every shot is available at your present level.

Temporal PressureA specific list of Hunter cooldowns
Inspect the listed ability names and the pressure created by your present rotation. Haste is a question to evaluate, not an automatic universal first stat.
Default catalog record 201284 · genuine icon / original explanation04 / FIX THE BOTTLENECK
A stat decision order.
Use this qualitative order to decide what to inspect next. It is not a set of simulated weights, universal caps or an instruction to ignore your active tree.
- 01A usable ranged weapon and reliable firing opportunities
- 02Pet control and enough survival to preserve those opportunities
- 03Agility / attack power for the actual ranged plan
- 04Critical strike when the chosen effect explicitly needs critical hits
- 05Haste or cooldown value only when the specific shot cycle can exploit it
When movement interrupts the ranged cycle, another damage card can have little practical value. Make the next firing lane visible before you decide the build lacks power.
05 / THE LOOP
Make the next press useful.
A card triggered by Auto Shot criticals and one triggered by an active shot are different investments. Identify which kind of attack is reliably happening before choosing between them.
Perform the actual eligible action.
Check whether the intended result had a useful opportunity.
Change the failing step before adding another layer.
The mistake to catch early.
Treating every Hunter proc as if every shot can trigger it. The default catalog distinguishes Auto Shot criticals from named active shots.
When an interaction seems absent, read the precise trigger and class record first. An effect with the same name on another class can use a different condition. PTR examples can also differ from the default catalog.
One useful experiment.
Use a repeatable enemy group. Observe which attacks continue while you reposition and which only happen after you settle. Then choose one Echo that supports the part of the cycle you can sustain.
Keep the encounter, role and ordinary sequence as consistent as practical. Write down what changed and what remained awkward. Your own observation is more useful than pretending this guide measured a universal winner.
