Leave a usable restart at the Church
Before leaving, separate the equipment you need now from the supplies you want available later. Put surplus ammunition, ingredients and spare equipment into storage instead of carrying everything simply because it fits. The Priest's Chest also supports banking money and ammunition. Our recommendation is to preserve enough for a modest replacement loadout and the next resupply. That makes an unsuccessful exploration a recoverable setback rather than a reason to spend the next session rebuilding every supply. Check which items remain on your character after sorting; moving a gun alone does not organize its ammunition or healing.
Learn one gun before transforming it
Read the ammunition type, current durability, magazine and handling on a weapon you can afford to use. Give it a clear job: accurate single-target shots, close pressure or another role you can explain. Keep the reserve ammunition compatible with that choice. A new gun can look attractive while solving a problem you do not currently have. We would first learn when it needs reloading, how its recoil affects follow-up shots and whether you can land hits without spending excessive ammunition. Add a second option to cover a recognizable weakness rather than duplicate an expensive habit.
Turn each room into a manageable exchange
Enter with room to move and identify the threat that prevents you from using that room. Avoid changing position, weapon and healing item simultaneously unless the situation demands it. For learning, a useful goal is to finish one encounter with a clearer reload decision or fewer unnecessary shots. Melee can conserve gun supplies against an appropriate small or weakened threat, but closing distance has its own risk. Choose that trade deliberately. If the encounter has already consumed your recovery and escape space, adding another uncertain fight rarely makes the earlier spending more efficient.
Carry recovery you can use in time
Compare healing duration as well as total health. A large eventual recovery may be poor protection against the next immediate hit. Arrange the items you intend to consume so you can find them without searching a full inventory. Keep ingredients for a known cooking plan, but do not confuse a possible future recipe with usable healing during the current fight. Our cooking guide explains how to read recipe inputs and current recovery labels. Treat the first outing as an opportunity to learn which supplies you actually spend, then adjust the next packing list.
Solve one equipment problem at a time
Wait until you can name a weakness before investing a valuable modification. Perhaps recoil stops follow-up hits, ammunition runs out before your intended return, or the projectile behavior does not suit the route. Filling an available upgrade slot is not itself a goal. We would keep a replacement weapon available and change one part of a build before committing more ingredients. The weapon workbench planner can organize those decisions. It is a planning aid: the gun's current in-game card remains the reference for its actual modified behavior.
Choose what makes returning a success
The Amulet supplies a way back to the Church when charged. Locate its state before building a plan around extraction, and recognize that a route to a recharge is a different thing from an available return. We would consider banking a useful unlock, rare component or valuable batch of supplies instead of making a full inventory the only finish line. Read the Amulet and run-risk guide for the distinction between extraction, insurance and difficulty settings. After returning, bank the gain, repair and resupply, then choose one improvement for the next outing.

Clear the next question.
Should I apply every useful-looking modification immediately?+
We would wait until the weapon has a clear job and the change solves a known problem. A spare slot is an option, not an obligation. Preserve a replacement and check ammunition, handling and durability together before investing further.
Is a short run a failure?+
A short run that banks useful supplies or teaches a repeatable decision can improve the next attempt. Judge the result by the goal and resources preserved rather than by how long you remained outside the Church.
