THE COBALT TAKE · EDITORIAL ASSESSMENT

Our take: Affliction should make the opponent spend attention while you keep a stable position. Uncontrolled spreading is not automatically good pressure, especially when it removes your team’s control options.

PRE-LAUNCH GUIDE Source reviewed 30 October 2026. Forever launches 4 November. Talent data is versioned; balance and gearing advice remain provisional.

Choose the pressure that helps your team

Start by deciding what your damage is meant to force: a defensive response, a retreat from an objective, or attention away from a teammate. A field full of affected nameplates is not a complete plan. Some enemies matter immediately; others can safely be ignored while your group completes its task.

Our recommendations apply the documented Forever toolkit to general PvP decisions. They are not claims of tested compositions or matchup win rates. We favor a manageable pressure plan that leaves resources and control available when the opposing team changes its target.

Balance pressure access with your way of surviving

Look at the actual Affliction route and identify the interaction you want to use against players. Consider what helps you apply useful pressure while moving or under attention, then compare it with the defensive and control options you give up.

Keep different intentions separate: a solo encounter may reward a different allocation from supporting a battleground group. Do not select a full PvE route merely because it reaches an attractive damage total. Write down the job of each situational point and inspect its current tooltip. That gives you a reason to change the build when the expected opponents change.

Build a safe side of the fight

Take a position where your demon, your allies and the route behind you remain useful. Watch the player who can quickly close the distance or deny a channel. Your opening should not require walking through the enemy group before your pressure even begins.

Coordinate damage-over-time effects with your team’s control. If a teammate intends to isolate an enemy, decide who should remain untouched and who should receive pressure. Announce the priority instead of assuming that everyone values the same target. An organized split between pressure and control is easier to exploit than several players independently undoing each other’s work.

Maintain an investment only while it has a purpose

Use Corruption, your selected Bane and the other effects your allocation supports on targets worth the resources. Watch what the enemy does in response. If the fight moves away from an objective or your team needs a defensive action, change the plan rather than refreshing effects indefinitely.

Use a drain only from a position that can sustain the commitment. Treat a Nightfall opportunity as a choice of useful target, not an instruction to abandon the team’s priority. Avoid chasing behind cover merely to finish a pressure sequence; the route back to your own support should remain part of every aggressive step.

Pay for Mana when the health cost is safe

Plan Life Tap around a quiet interval and your team’s ability to recover. Spending health during a hostile kill attempt can turn a resource problem into an immediate survival problem. Let teammates know when you intend to reset instead of continuing a chase on an empty budget.

Gear should support useful actions under the pressure you actually face. Evaluate health and resources beside offensive caster stats, and keep a note of what repeatedly ends your attempts. We are not assigning a mandatory race, exact PvP cap or universal counter list before launch-specific evidence exists. A better position can solve a problem that an expensive damage item cannot.

Test the switch from pressure to defense

Practice a short exchange in which a partner suddenly changes from retreating to attacking you. Your task is to notice the transition, preserve an escape and stop spending on a target that no longer justifies the same plan. Continue until you can recover a useful position without exhausting every answer.

Common mistakes are spreading pressure onto a control target, channeling while an obvious interruption approaches, and treating Life Tap as a button to press regardless of incoming damage. Review the earliest lost option rather than only the final health bar. Sustainable pressure includes being able to participate in the next exchange.

QUICK ANSWERS

Affliction Warlock questions

Should I spread DoTs across every opposing player? +

Only when that pressure serves the objective and does not conflict with your team’s control plan.

When should I use Life Tap in PvP? +

Choose a moment when its health cost is safe and recovery is realistic, rather than using it automatically during incoming burst.

Is this a tested Affliction arena build? +

No. It is a source-based general PvP plan without fabricated competitive results or fixed composition claims.
