Reviewed 30 October 2026. Forever is in its pre-launch edition. Later-level advice is identified as planning where beta coverage is limited; check the current client before committing materials or a long journey.
Why these profession pairings?
- Leatherworking consumes leather, hides and scales.
- A second gathering profession can suit a character who prefers selling materials to crafting.
START AT YOUR CURRENT SKILL
Your Skinning route
Move the slider to highlight the relevant stage.
Learn locally and keep the knife
The current route allows starting-area creatures to supply the first band. Carry a Skinning Knife, collect the creature’s regular loot and check whether the corpse is marked skinnable. Light Leather and Ruined Leather Scraps are useful early outputs. Build this into normal questing instead of adding an unrelated grind every time your skill falls a few points behind.
- Ruined Leather Scraps
- Light Leather
- Light Hide
Before the next stageJourneyman is a skill-50 training checkpoint; the junior starting-area trainer may not teach it.
Match the creature to your actual skill
Reviewed early options include beasts in The Barrens and Loch Modan, with Wetlands raptors as a later candidate. Use the corpse requirement before choosing a target. For ordinary creatures at level 20 and above, the source uses five times creature level as the usual requirement. Do not interpret your own character level as automatic permission to skin every nearby enemy.
- Light Leather
- Medium Leather
- Associated hides
Before the next stageExpert becomes a skill-125 checkpoint. Keep the next trainer stop on your route.
Combine quest credit with usable corpses
The specialist lists Hillsbrad yetis and Duskwood worgen as middle-stage options. Pick the one that fits your faction access, character strength and active objectives. Ask a group to finish looting before expecting a skinning interaction. If several skinners are present, agree on how to share opportunities rather than planning your whole supply around corpses another player will claim.
- Medium Leather
- Heavy Leather
- Hides actually gathered
Before the next stageArtisan is a skill-200 training checkpoint; confirm its current trainer conditions.
Check the high-level field plan on live
Feralas yetis and western Un’Goro creatures are listed later candidates in the current specialist route. We have no personal Forever test of that full circuit and do not promise its safety or pace. Inspect actual skinning requirements and available quest objectives before committing. Trapper’s Workbench is a listed skill-300 camp checkpoint, rather than a substitute for practical field gathering.
- Thick Leather
- Rugged Leather
- Creature-specific scales or hides
Before the next stageHigher creature circuits and final blueprint availability need live confirmation.
Give each output a destination
Keep three piles: materials promised to a Leatherworker, your own reserve, and stock for sale. Separate hides and special drops from ordinary leather. A crafter may lack one rare component while already having ample regular leather, so a conversation can save both players an unnecessary gathering session.
Use utility without overstating its value
Camp Chair is the skill-20 contribution and Field Guide is listed at 140. The chair supplies critical chance with a class-buff exclusion, so inspect the group’s existing benefits before choosing a camp feature. Track Beasts from the later guide can support a gathering session, but a tracking icon does not prove that the target is safe, skinnable or required by your crafting plan.

Quick questions
Does every beast give the same leather?+
No. Creature level and type affect the material pool, and hides are not guaranteed. Plan around observed outputs rather than an exact drop count.
Must I equip the ordinary Skinning Knife?+
The reviewed basic route requires it in your bags. Separate skill-bonus equipment can have its own equip conditions, so inspect that item independently.
