THE COBALT TAKE · EDITORIAL ASSESSMENT
Our take: play for a controlled stretch of contact. Spending every offensive tool before the opponent commits an answer makes your next decision harder.
PRE-LAUNCH GUIDE Source reviewed 30 October 2026. Forever launches 4 November. Talent data is versioned; balance and gearing advice remain provisional.

A straightforward builder whose usefulness depends on weapon choice and available contact.
A cooldown to align with a controlled opportunity, not a reason to break crowd control.
Extra resources are useful only when the fight lets you spend them well.

Choose sustained contact with a useful job
Combat's direct melee approach makes it easy to keep attacking and harder to notice when the attack no longer serves the team. Decide whether you are pressuring a priority opponent, protecting a healer or contesting a route. The right target is the one connected to that purpose.
We would start battleground learning with a partner and a retreat route. That lets you identify when an offensive window is real. These recommendations are prelaunch editorial judgments, not a claim that a particular matchup or team composition has already been solved.
Give flexible points an explanation
Compare the current Combat talents with the problems you expect under player pressure. A point that improves damage during uninterrupted contact will not necessarily solve reaching a target, stopping a cast or recovering after being forced away. Write down what the flexible allocation is intended to answer.
Hack and Slash also makes weapon evaluation part of the build conversation. Inspect its present conditions before treating an old weapon recommendation as mandatory. Keep the calculator's legality checks separate from claims about the strongest possible launch allocation.
Build the offensive window
Begin only when you understand where the enemy's help will come from. Use your ordinary builder and finishing choices to create pressure while observing defensive responses. Keep an energy reserve for the control or interrupt that makes the next few seconds valuable.
Adrenaline Rush is a commitment to spending resources, so check that you can actually remain in contact. Blade Flurry should fit the nearby targets and your group's crowd control. Pressing both just before an enemy becomes unavailable may look decisive without accomplishing anything useful.
Control should extend the useful fight
Coordinate Kidney Shot, Kick and off-target control with teammates rather than layering everything on the same harmless moment. Your purpose may be to deny a heal, prevent an escape or buy a recovery opportunity. Name that purpose before spending the answer.
Do not let cleave or incidental damage undo a planned Sap or Blind. When your group wants one enemy left alone, move the damage fight to a position where the instruction remains practical. A good control plan includes the location of the controlled target, not just the name of the spell.
Escape early enough to make it an escape
Keep the route back to support visible. If the enemy turns the fight into a numerical disadvantage, spending a movement or defensive tool early can preserve your ability to rejoin the next engagement. Waiting until every available route is closed leaves far fewer meaningful choices.
Prepare supplies between fights and inspect the equipment you are actually wearing. A set built for a protected PvE position may need a different durability balance against players. We do not assign a universal race or a fixed numerical PvP stat weighting before launch evidence exists.
Know when to stop chasing
A player retreating away from an objective may already have given you what the team needs. Chasing beyond allied support can surrender that advantage. Check the task before following, and consider whether guarding the route or helping a teammate creates the better next engagement.
Useful review questions are simple: could you spend the resources you activated, did your control protect a real window and did the target choice help the objective? Treating those decisions separately reveals far more than a final battleground damage total.
QUICK ANSWERS
Combat Rogue questions
Does this guide promise an arena build? +
No. The scope is world PvP and battleground preparation in Forever, without assuming a bracket or importing a later-expansion composition.
Should I macro every cooldown together? +
We would first learn which opportunity each cooldown requires. Combine them deliberately once you can recognize a suitable window.
