THE COBALT TAKE · EDITORIAL ASSESSMENT
Our take: poison pressure works better when the opening gives it somewhere to go. Create a useful second window rather than spending every answer on the first.
PRE-LAUNCH GUIDE Source reviewed 30 October 2026. Forever launches 4 November. Talent data is versioned; balance and gearing advice remain provisional.
Inspect its weapon requirements before choosing the build and equipping a new drop.
A poison-focused finisher whose investment needs enough time to matter.
Connect poison preparation to actual uptime rather than treating it as a forgotten consumable.

Choose a target with a purpose
Before opening, decide what the attack should achieve: remove an isolated opponent, force a defensive, protect a teammate or delay an objective response. An available target is not necessarily the correct target. Consider the enemy healer, nearby reinforcements and the route back to your own group.
Assassination's documented poison emphasis makes target availability especially important. We would begin with deliberate engagements that let you observe the result, rather than gambling every cooldown on a target whose allies can immediately shut down the attempt.
Plan damage and access together
Inspect the current poison talents and the weapon requirements of Mutilate, then ask what happens when the opponent will not let you attack freely. Flexible points should support the kind of contact and recovery your usual games require. A damage-only allocation can feel very different when the target is actively creating distance.
Do not label an old calculator starter card a proven launch PvP build. We are making a source-based preparation recommendation for world PvP and battlegrounds, without importing an arena composition ranking from Wrath or Retail.
Open with enough resources for the follow-up
Use the opening to establish a clear advantage and observe the enemy response. Reserve energy for the control action that will let your team continue the engagement. Spending to zero immediately can leave you watching a crucial cast or escape without a useful response.
If the opponent uses a major defensive, reconsider the next investment instead of pressing the same sequence faster. Poison pressure, a controlled pause and help from teammates may offer a better route than stacking every offensive button into the protected part of the fight.
Keep damage compatible with control
Coordinate who should be attacked and who should remain untouched. Sap, Blind and other control decisions need an actual group plan; adding periodic pressure to every visible enemy can ruin the opportunity the rest of your team was creating. State the intended target before the engagement when possible.
Think about Kidney Shot and an interrupt as ways to shape a useful damage window, not as buttons that must always be pressed immediately. When the enemy has already lost contact with your team, saving a control answer for the next approach can be the stronger choice.
Do not leave escape until the last health point
Map the exit before combat and notice when it becomes blocked. Use available defensive or movement tools while they can still change the engagement. A beautifully timed attack is not a success if it strands you beyond support with every recovery option already spent.
Check supplies and equipment effects between fights. For gear, include enough health and practical durability to stay active under ordinary attention. We are not claiming a universally best race or an established level-60 stat weighting from the limited prelaunch environment.
Measure a useful outcome
A good engagement may end with an enemy defensive forced, a healer protected or an objective held, even when you do not get the final hit. Evaluate the job you chose at the start. Chasing a nearly defeated player far away from that job can convert useful pressure into a wasted life.
Common errors are opening before checking allies, applying damage to a planned control target and discovering that the wrong weapons undermine the build. Keep notes on the earliest controllable mistake instead of judging the spec solely by the final damage board.
QUICK ANSWERS
Assassination Rogue questions
Can I use this as an arena bracket tier list? +
No. It is a Forever world-PvP and battleground preparation guide. No arena bracket or matchup dominance is claimed.
Should I spend all energy immediately after opening? +
Only if that commitment serves the situation. Usually you should preserve the ability to interrupt, control or react to the next important enemy action.
