CLASS JOURNEY / 1–60

Rogue leveling.
Learn it as you go.

Choose encounters with Stealth, spend Energy on a deliberate sequence and keep a reliable recovery plan for the fights that do not go cleanly.

THE COBALT TAKE

Our take: Combat is a practical general-purpose starting direction; a dagger-focused alternative deserves its own weapon and ability plan rather than a renamed sword build.

Reviewed 30 October 2026. Forever is in its pre-launch edition. Later-level advice is identified as planning where beta coverage is limited; check the current client before committing materials or a long journey.

BUILD GOOD HABITS EARLY

Your Rogue milestones

1–9

Choose the fight before the opener

Learn how close enemies stand to each other and where a fleeing target might run. A clean single target is worth more than spending your entire health bar correcting an avoidable extra pull. Keep an affordable recovery supply.

10–19

Build around usable weapons

Check new weapon and class options with the trainer instead of copying another version’s unlock list. Early Combat efficiency is useful, but your actual main-hand damage and relevant skill still matter. Put control on accessible keybinds before it becomes urgent.

20–29

Make cooldowns part of the circuit

Use your available defensive and mobility tools deliberately. Endurance can reduce the downtime of Sprint and Evasion when selected. Restock poisons and class reagents as appropriate; discovering an empty supply during an escape is a planning failure.

30–39

Cleave only the enemies you meant to fight

A Combat-first ordinary-point route can reach Blade Flurry at 30. A second controlled target changes the value of that cooldown, while an unwanted extra target changes the risk. Beyond beta-tested content, recheck enemy damage before reproducing a large pull.

40–60

Commit to a coherent toolkit

Post-beta planning: compare sustained Combat, Mutilate poison play or deep Subtlety tools as complete packages. The existing 51-point cards explain role choices; they do not prove that rushing every capstone is the fastest way through each leveling band.

Let the next action decide the weapon comparison

A Sinister Strike-focused main hand and a Mutilate setup are different purchases. Inspect both weapon slots and the current requirements before changing styles. Hack and Slash has different effects for swords/axes, daggers/fists and maces in this snapshot; it is not a universal instruction to discard every non-sword weapon.

Energy planning rewards knowing what the next control or finishing action will cost. A finishing move that suits a long fight can be wasteful on an almost-dead enemy. Keep poisons prepared, but also think about whether ongoing damage conflicts with a controlled pause you need for recovery or a teammate’s next action.

Skip strategically and fight productively

Stealth can shorten a route to an objective, but walking past every enemy can leave you short of quest progress, useful drops or a safe return path. Before entering a cave, decide how you will leave after the objective. Respawns and patrols make a route different on the way back.

For group content, bring the relevant quests and use interrupts and control instead of only chasing a damage total. Mark which enemy should remain untouched before using cleave. The Combat guide provides a sustained baseline, while Assassination and Subtlety have distinct setup needs. A good weapon reward can justify a run; repeated attempts still cost travel and recovery.

Buy another safe attempt

First Aid is especially useful because Rogue lacks a normal healing spell. Arrange a safe bandage window instead of assuming it will work while you are still taking damage. Keep food for the gaps that control does not cover and use a potion when it prevents a death rather than preserving it indefinitely.

Skinning with Leatherworking suits a self-crafted leather journey. Herbalism with Alchemy supports consumables; Mining with Engineering is an intentional utility investment. A gathering-first plan is reasonable when weapons and training need the gold. Treat crafting time, reagents and bag space as real costs rather than calling profession gear free.

BEFORE YOU SET OUT

Quick questions

Must I rush a deep Subtlety capstone for leveling?+

No. Current specialist leveling coverage often favors more immediate Combat tools. Deep Subtlety remains a style choice whose route should be evaluated separately.

Does every weapon use Hack and Slash in the same way?+

No. The current talent changes its bonus by weapon family. Compare the tooltip, the actual item and the abilities you intend to use.
