CLASS JOURNEY / 1–60

Hunter leveling.
Learn it as you go.

The pet is a partner with its own position and threat, not an automatic answer to every enemy you can reach with a ranged attack.

THE COBALT TAKE

Our take: Beast Mastery is a useful solo starting direction, but good pet control and supplies are more important than copying a distant 51-point endpoint.

Reviewed 30 October 2026. Forever is in its pre-launch edition. Later-level advice is identified as planning where beta coverage is limited; check the current client before committing materials or a long journey.

BUILD GOOD HABITS EARLY

Your Hunter milestones

1–9

Learn distance before relying on a pet

Use the available ranged and melee kit together while keeping an escape lane. Do not read later pet-based advice as permission to pull aggressively in the opening levels. Check your ammunition and usable weapon before leaving town.

10–19

Make the pet quest a priority

The reviewed Hunter guides identify the level-10 pet unlock as a major change. Practise attack, follow and passive commands immediately. Let the pet reach its target before judging whether it can keep the enemy away from you.

20–29

Travel and fight deliberately

Aspect of the Cheetah appears at level 20 in the reviewed milestones. Treat travel tools as choices to manage around danger. Pet health and a clear retreat are still more useful than starting a second target while the first is uncontrolled.

30–39

Add recovery decisions

The reviewed milestone table places Feign Death at 30. Learn its actual use before treating it as an automatic escape. Above the beta-tested range, increase pull difficulty cautiously and keep the pet’s path clear of unplanned enemies.

40–60

Choose the style you want to master

Post-beta planning: evaluate pet-focused ranged play, petless Marksmanship choices or the distinct Survival melee route. Their gear and talent assumptions differ. Keep the specialization library as a reference instead of mixing incompatible recommendations into one outfit.

Keep two characters ready for the next fight

Watch your pet’s health, location and current target while planning your own attacks. A single-target threat advantage does not imply that it can collect an entire pack. Finish a safe target, send the pet onward when appropriate and use the short movement window to loot or reposition.

Do not spend mana just because an ability is available. Pet attacks and Auto Shot can continue useful work while you conserve resources. Conversely, underusing the kit against a dangerous enemy is not efficiency. Judge the next several pulls, including recovery, instead of the time of one unusually clean kill.

Bring pet discipline into groups

Compare a meaningful ranged weapon upgrade before chasing tiny armor-slot gains. Keep enough defensive item value to survive when an enemy reaches you, and maintain a usable melee option for the moments your chosen style requires it. Refill ammunition and inspect its storage before a long trip.

In a dungeon, follow the tank’s target plan and manage pet threat, movement and autocasts deliberately. Recall it before a route change or awkward shortcut. The Beast Mastery guide is the natural pet-focused reference; read Survival separately if you intend to learn the melee package. Neither makes uncontrolled multishot or pet pathing harmless.

Use gathering without starving your supplies

Skinning pairs naturally with the beast-heavy quests you may already be doing. Add Leatherworking if crafting useful armor and quiver-related upgrades appeals to you; compare the actual recipe rather than crafting everything available. Herbalism with Alchemy is an alternative for players who prefer consumable independence.

Keep First Aid and food available for your own recovery. Organize bags around ammunition, quest items and the pet supplies your current companion uses. A dungeon with several ready quests can be worthwhile, but do not abandon a productive quest circuit merely because another run is advertised nearby.

BEFORE YOU SET OUT

Quick questions

Should I pull every enemy my pet can reach?+

No. Pet single-target strength does not guarantee pack-wide threat. Increase complexity only when you can control the full pull and its escape route.

Is the level-60 Beast Mastery card a mandatory leveling route?+

No. It is an editable role-oriented endpoint. Early utility, available equipment and personal control needs can justify a different journey.
