THE COBALT TAKE · EDITORIAL ASSESSMENT

Our take: agree on your job before you agree on a build. A useful off-tank plan is different from a damage-only plan, even when both use Feral Combat.

PRE-LAUNCH GUIDE Source reviewed 30 October 2026. Forever launches 4 November. Talent data is versioned; balance and gearing advice remain provisional.

Talent data & scope

Functional tree data: ArenaMaster 1.60.1.70532 snapshot, retrieved 2026-10-30. Grid positions and ranks were cross-checked against Eternadex. Later snapshots can differ; this planner retains its stated version. Off-grid legacy entries are excluded from the visible tree. Our planner code and guide text are original. Start with Cat, Bear or a planned switch

Ask the group which enemies you are responsible for and whether you will be expected to tank during the encounter. A hybrid tree does not remove the need for an assignment. If you must catch an add, your equipment, resources and position should already support that duty before it appears.

For Cat-only play, optimize the time you can safely attack. For Bear, prioritize control of incoming enemies and a stable health profile. For an off-tank, identify the exact signal for changing roles instead of improvising the switch after someone has died.

A shared tree is not a universal allocation

Compare each talent with the role you will perform most often. Cat-focused damage choices can compete with points that help Bear survive or establish control. A flexible setup should make that trade deliberately; it should not merely spend leftovers wherever a familiar icon appears.

The later reviewed Bear guide differs from older previews on several talent details. Use the current tree for names, prerequisites and effects. We are intentionally not attaching an old screenshot's point split to this article and calling it a final level-60 optimum.

Cat: spend for the target in front of you

Once the pull is stable, attack from a position that does not expose you to unnecessary frontal mechanics. Build and spend resources with the target's lifetime in mind. A bleed is an investment; a finishing move that will never complete its work is not automatically efficient because it appears in a longer boss rotation.

Keep room for a required movement or support action. When a mechanic forces you out, return with a clear decision about the next target rather than pressing your previous sequence into an enemy that is almost gone.

Bear: establish the fight before decorating it

Plan where the pack should stand and which enemy is most likely to escape your attention. Give the group a clear initial target. Look across the whole pull rather than tunnel-visioning the creature with the largest health bar; good threat on one target does not protect the healer from the others.

Use major cooldowns for a reason you can name: a dangerous overlap, an unstable pull or an agreed damage window. Do not turn a survival problem into an uncontrolled experiment simply because another form could produce a higher damage number.

Weapons, equipment and the hidden resource

The newer specialist coverage identifies weapon damage as relevant to Forever's Feral forms. That is a reason to inspect weapon upgrades, not permission to copy an exact conversion formula into every gearing decision. Keep separate comparisons for a tanking set and a damage set.

Also keep mana visible. Form changes and utility can become expensive even while your current form displays another resource. Our practical recommendation is to reserve a margin for the next assigned intervention rather than spending everything on optional switches or a speculative burst improvement.

What to review after a run

For Cat, ask how much useful attack time you lost and whether finishers matched target lifetime. For Bear, ask which enemy escaped, why the healer was pressured and whether a cooldown was held through its intended event. For an off-tank, ask whether the role transition happened early enough.

Do not judge the whole spec from a single combined damage total. A player who spends a planned part of the fight keeping an add controlled should be evaluated against that job, not against someone who remained free to attack throughout.

QUICK ANSWERS

Feral Combat Druid questions

Can one Feral build cover every tank and damage situation? +

It can offer flexibility, but the group assignment still creates talent and equipment tradeoffs. Main-tanking should not be treated as an accidental extension of a damage setup.

Should I copy Classic powershifting advice? +

No. Later Forever coverage describes changed resource and form behavior. Check the present talent and spell descriptions before adopting an older routine.
