GATHERING / SKILL 1–300

Mining.
A useful skill at every stage.

Mining has two jobs: collecting the deposit and turning its contents into the form your crafter needs. Our plan keeps those decisions connected. Carry the tool, know your next useful metal, and avoid converting every material before checking a recipe or buyer. Higher-zone circuits are planning suggestions where current sources have not tested them in Forever.

Reviewed 30 October 2026. Forever is in its pre-launch edition. Later-level advice is identified as planning where beta coverage is limited; check the current client before committing materials or a long journey.

Why these profession pairings?
  • Blacksmithing uses bars and grinding-stone materials.
  • Engineering uses metal, stone and occasional gems.

START AT YOUR CURRENT SKILL

Your Mining route

Move the slider to highlight the relevant stage.

1–75

Start with copper and a working tool

Carry a Mining Pick and activate Find Minerals. Poor Copper Veins and ordinary Copper Veins are current starting deposits; copper can also be smelted at a forge. Make the first loop close to a planned return to town. Before smelting a large pile, check whether the next intended craft needs ore, bars or the stone obtained alongside them.

MATERIAL CHECKPOINT
  • Copper Ore
  • Rough Stone

Before the next stageJourneyman is a skill-50 training checkpoint; junior starting-area trainers may stop at Apprentice.

76–150

Connect tin, bronze and the iron threshold

The reviewed opening route uses Tin and Bronze smelting before gathering becomes the main progression again. Iron Deposits require 125 in the current reference. Compare your available ore with the bars a Blacksmith or Engineer actually needs. An affordable smelting option can help a short gap, but buying a huge ore pile without checking its remaining skill-up color is a poor default.

MATERIAL CHECKPOINT
  • Tin Ore
  • Copper Bar
  • Tin Bar
  • Iron Ore

Before the next stageExpert is a skill-125 checkpoint. Check current trainer conditions and the active cap.

151–225

Plan iron into mithril cautiously

Gold Veins are listed at skill 155 and Mithril Deposits at 175. These are eligibility checkpoints, not an invitation for a low-level character to enter every cave. The reviewed route becomes Classic-based and untested from 125 onward. Keep an outdoor alternative available when a promising deposit sits behind enemies or respawns that your character cannot handle comfortably.

MATERIAL CHECKPOINT
  • Iron Ore
  • Gold Ore
  • Mithril Ore

Before the next stageArtisan becomes a skill-200 training checkpoint, before the 225 ceiling.

226–300

Verify the thorium approach locally

The current source lists Truesilver Deposits at 230 and Small Thorium Veins at 245. Inspect current requirements and your effective skill when you arrive. The late loop has not been established as a tested Forever circuit, so reassess danger and competition before committing. Molten Foundry is a listed skill-300 camp station; special endgame recipes and node bonuses require individual checks.

MATERIAL CHECKPOINT
  • Truesilver Ore
  • Thorium Ore
  • Stone and gems from eligible deposits

Before the next stageLate routes are provisional; do not assume every endgame deposit is available at base skill 300.

Agree on the material form first

Our recommendation is a small standing request: which metal, how many immediate crafts, and which stone to retain. That gives a mining session a clear finish. Put rare gems and unusual reagents aside until you know their use. Compare the ore and bar markets separately when deciding what to sell.

Treat the exit as part of the circuit

Lodestone is the skill-20 camp feature; Rock Garden is listed at 140. Neither removes the need for a sensible field route. Before entering a mine, consider the return path and whether enemies are likely to stand between you and the exit. A productive gathering evening should leave enough time to smelt, train and hand over materials, rather than ending with full bags far from a workshop.

BEFORE YOU SET OUT

Quick questions

Should I buy ore to level by smelting?+

Compare the ore cost, resulting bar value and remaining skill-up chance first. The guide does not assume a purchased smelting route is always efficient.

Does 300 allow every deposit?+

No universal guarantee is made. The current reference notes special endgame deposits with requirements above the base cap; inspect each deposit and applicable bonuses.
