THE COBALT TAKE · EDITORIAL ASSESSMENT
Our provisional recommendation is coordinated Hunter-and-pet pressure with a prepared escape route. The companion should support your control plan, not repeatedly undo it.

Adds a temporary attacker and shares a cooldown decision with Arcane Shot.

Pressure works when both of you can reach
Beast Mastery can pressure an opponent while the Hunter manages distance, but a player can move, use terrain and attack the companion. Treat the pet as an active partner rather than a damage icon that solves the engagement by itself. Know where it is, what it is attacking and how quickly you can recall it.
Our scope is battleground and open-world PvP in Forever. We are not presenting a tested arena composition or a final launch tier list. The recommendations below are editorial judgments based on published class changes and the announced PvP framework, with exact tuning left open to launch evidence.
Build a control plan around the companion
Examine the pet-centered damage choices and Intimidation together with your general control tools. Decide which enemy action deserves the pet response and which one you will handle through positioning or a trap. Spending every stop at first contact can leave you without a useful answer when the real attack begins.
Summon Hawk creates a specific offensive choice alongside Arcane Shot because the cooldown is shared. Do not let a familiar ranged button consume the window you intended for the pet-focused interaction. Our starting preference is an understandable plan with reliable companion uptime rather than a fragile maximum-damage arrangement that assumes nobody will interfere with it.
Prepare the path before the enemy closes
Choose a position with space to move and a route back to friendly help. Watch opponents approaching from the side as well as the enemy you are attacking. A Hunter who begins moving only after ranged attacks become unavailable has already surrendered useful time.
Traps can be placed in combat in Forever, but the documented placement remains at the Hunter’s location. Put that fact into the plan: decide where you want an enemy to travel and where your teammate can capitalize on the control. Do not import a trap-launching assumption from another WoW version.
Keep the companion from breaking the control that created your safe window. Use passive or follow when the situation requires it, and send the pet back deliberately once pressure can resume. Chasing an enemy behind terrain with the pet while you remain unable to support it can hand the opponent a free way to remove part of your toolkit.
Coordinate a target and a useful response
Choose a target your team can pressure and tell your teammates when you are committing the pet. An offensive window becomes more valuable when it overlaps a coordinated stop or an exposed target rather than random damage into a prepared defense. If the opponent uses a strong answer, reassess before spending every remaining cooldown into it.
Protect the pet when it is being focused, but do not stand in an unsafe place simply to preserve one more attack. Recall and reset when that preserves both parts of the Hunter for the next exchange. A controlled disengagement can be a better result than losing the companion and then trying to recover alone while the enemy advances.
Value useful uptime and mana
Choose gear that lets you continue participating under the pressure you actually face. A ranged weapon matters, and so do health, reliable attacks and a resource budget that supports control. The pet also benefits from the Forever gear-scaling design, so compare the pair’s performance rather than judging only your own largest shot.
Use current Honor vendors and rank requirements for attainable upgrades. We do not assign a mandatory race, final pet family ranking or fixed PvP stat cap from pre-launch material. If a purchase is meant to improve survival, explain which encounter pattern it helps; if it is meant to improve pressure, compare a similarly supported attack window.
Find the avoidable loss of control
After a match, review broken traps, pet deaths behind cover, opponents who entered your weak range without a response and pushes that left friendly support behind. Pick one behavior to improve on the next queue. Our view is that the best first Beast Mastery improvement is often better companion control, not a more complicated damage macro.
QUICK ANSWERS
Beast Mastery Hunter questions
Can I launch traps wherever an opponent is standing? +
The cited Forever design permits in-combat traps but places them at your location. Plan movement and terrain around that restriction.
Should the pet attack through every control effect? +
No. Stop or redirect it when damage would undo the control your team needs, then resume pressure deliberately.
